Justin Krawitz

Artist • Educator • Citizen

Krawitz is engaged in many writerly pursuits. He has been invited to contribute articles to several professional journals and his scholarly work has appeared in peer-reviewed publications such as the EPTA Piano Journal and the ISSTIP journal Tension in Performance. He has served on the editorial board of the latter and as a contributing editor of the Martinů Revue. He has edited several monographs issued by the Bohuslav Martinů Institute in Prague, and has served as a book reviewer for the Czech musicological journal Opus Musicum.

Krawitz was a contributor to the 2nd edition of the Grove Dictionary of American Music. His doctoral research on finger substitution won him a Dissertator Fellowship from UW-Madison. Since 2018, he has collaborated with Bärenreiter as a copy editor and translator. He does not write music, but enjoys the collaborative process of initiating new works from composers – a process during which the commissioning performer sometimes significantly influences the final form of the music.
